Biochemistry is “the branch of science dealing with the chemical structural elements of the living cells and the reactions and cases that they experience throughout their lifetime”. Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry, which are multidisciplinary sciences, are at the center of science branches such as molecular biology, toxicology, immunology, microbiology, endocrinology, physiology, pharmacology and epidemiology.
It is possible to classify the biochemistry science in two groups.
- 1. Basic Biochemistry:It is the branch of science that analyses the chemical materials in the living organism and the biochemical pathways which are the basis of the life.
Clinical Biochemistry:It is the branch of science that analyzes the body and the various excreted fluids and tissue parts in terms of the diagnosis and progress of the disease.
In the clinical biochemistry department in our laboratory; the clinical chemistry, physiological/hematological, electrolytes, tumor marker, urine analysis and electrophoresis tests are being done. We study on the animal analyses with our present expert staff and equipment park by using advanced techniques.

Veterinary Endocrinology; It is the branch of science that analyses the molecules called hormone, which are transported to the bloodstream by the endocrine glands in animal organism, their functions, their interaction with the other systems, and the diseases due to their abnormal functioning and their treatments.
In a healthy animal, it is necessary for the endocrine system to function properly. Hormones take primary roles in reproduction, growth, energy, carbohydrate, lipid, protein, water and mineral metabolism.
The most important underlying cause of the metabolic diseases, reproduction problems, skin diseases and some tumor types is the endocrine system problems in domestic animals and it is necessary to make and evaluate the hormonal analyses in the diagnosis and treatment follow-up.
The most commonly seen endocrine system problems in our country
1- Thyroid gland diseases
2- Adrenal gland diseases
3- Reproduction problems (organ failure, cystic structures, not to be able to be pregnant, cryptorchidism and so on)
4- Diabetes mellitus (Pancreas)
5- Oversynthesis due to the tumors
Hormone analyses need techniques with higher analytical sensitivity when compared to routine biochemistry analyses. Radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique, which is included in those techniques and in which the low level radioactive material is used, is the most commonly used technique in the studied hormone analyses, including in our laboratory. Tests work with the species specific kits. The validation studies are being done for the reliability and continuity of the tests, the internal quality control samples are used, and participation is provided for the external quality control programme (VQAS-Veterinary Laboratory Association Quality Assurance Program, USA).
