Swimming Pool Water Testing

Swimming Pool Water Analysis consists of the analyses performed in accordance with the Regulation on the Health Principles Applicable to Swimming Pools. The main purpose of this regulation is to establish the procedures and principles for determining, monitoring, and inspecting whether the hygienic conditions and water quality standards of indoor and outdoor swimming pools comply with the required health criteria. It also specifies the physical and chemical analyses that commercial swimming pool operators are required to perform on a monthly basis.

Among these analyses:

Cyanuric Acid: In the swimming pool industry, cyanuric acid is known as a chlorine stabilizer or pool conditioner. It limits the degradation of chlorine caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight, preventing chlorine from being depleted too quickly and helping maintain an effective disinfectant level in pool water. While it is used in outdoor swimming pools to extend the effectiveness and service life of chlorine, its use is prohibited in indoor swimming pools.

Combined Chlorine: Combined chlorine indicates that the chlorine present in the pool has lost its disinfecting effectiveness, meaning that the water is no longer being adequately sanitized. Combined chlorine may form when excessive amounts of cyanuric acid (stabilizer) are present in the water. This can occur when too much stabilizer has been added or when periodic maintenance procedures—such as backwashing, rinsing, and replenishing the pool with fresh water—are not carried out. Combined chlorine may also develop when the pool water pH is not properly balanced.

Samples are collected from the area where the water circulation is lowest or where user density is highest, approximately 50 cm from the edge of the swimming pool and 20 cm below the water surface, using special plastic containers that do not affect the quality of the water.

At Bilim Laboratories, these analyses are performed quantitatively using national and international test methods, in accordance with the applicable codes, regulations, communiqués, and other relevant legal requirements.
