Meat Species Identification & Food Authenticity Testing

Species identification analysis is performed to determine the animal species present in meat and meat products. It is primarily used to verify the accuracy of the declared animal content in labelled or processed meat products. For example, if a product is labelled as containing “beef”, this analysis can determine whether the product actually contains beef. In order to detect misleading declarations, prevent food adulteration and fraud, and meet religious and cultural requirements related to the avoidance of certain animal species, the presence or absence of specific animal species is determined.

In our laboratory, species identification analyses are performed using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology, in accordance with the TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard and by applying nationally and internationally recognised analytical methods.

These analyses are of great importance for food safety, consumer rights, and cultural requirements. Ensuring the accuracy of information provided on product labels enables consumers to make informed choices and contributes to the protection of food safety.
