Surface swab samples are collected from production areas and equipment to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitation procedures through microbiological testing.
Surface swab sampling is typically performed over a defined area (e.g., 10 cm² or 20 cm²) using a sterile swab moistened with an appropriate sampling solution. The swab is gently rubbed across the designated surface to collect microorganisms. For routine hygiene monitoring, the recommended sampling time is after cleaning and immediately before production begins.
